I'm trying to ignore what is going on outside.
But it's hard. It just keeps snowing and blowing. Definitely no Easter Egg Hunts outside this year.
I love to read. And if you know me even a little, you know I love to read magazines. Since becoming a Mom, I've subscribed to all sorts of parenting magazines. My very favorite magazine right now is Wondertime. It's fairly new and I think I ordered a free issue when they introduced it from the Family Fun magazine I also receive. Anyway, I think the biggest reason I was so drawn to this magazine is because of the amazing, beautiful photography. I love the pictures...they're more like snapshots rather than studio portraits and they inspire me each and every month. I also thoroughly enjoy the articles and the fun crafts. In the Feb/Mar issue (it's bimonthly) the editor wrote on Good Advice and how she and her advisory council (staff of developmental experts, family advocates, pediatricians, psychologists, etc.) who work with her and her staff daily by e-mail and phone got together for a meeting. As they met and talked face-to-face, they came up with a few pieces of wisdom as parents and she shared them in her editorial letter.
-Smile more; your face speaks volumes to your child.
-Three things to say more often: "Take your time," "It's not your fault," and "I'm sorry, you're right."
-Listen more, talk less--your child is the best teacher you'll ever have.
-Care as much about other people's children as you do about your own.
-Remember that kids don't learn by having knowledge poured into their brains; they learn by experience and through relationships.
-Expose your child to noble people.
I think we all know these bits of advice, but it's something that is great to hear again.
