Monarch Butterflies...

See that sad face up there? That was Robert so sad that one of the many, many monarch butterflies we raised this year didn't make it. We always have a few that don't make it past the chrysalis stage and they die, but that doesn't seem to bother him quite as much as this incident. This year we had one butterfly hatch that had a defective (small) wing. He didn't quite flourish after his wings dried and he couldn't fly. Robert was heartbroken. He was determined (with Ryan's help) to nurse it back to health so that it's wing would grow bigger and stronger, so that it could fly away. They went so far as building an airplane type thing with board/cardboard box, etc. and kept the butterfly for as long as I would let them. Once again, a lesson on the cycle of life.
