they said...

This summer I decorated the cover of a little notebook that is entitled, they said...

you know those things that kids say that you don't really want to forget. Anyway, Tim and I thought we'd try and remember some of the things Robert, Ryan and Kelsey say and write them down. You know just to have a good laugh or to bribe them with some day!

Some of you may remember the peonies story that I posted about on June 26, 2006. It's these types of things we want to try and remember or to just read back to them some day.

Here's a few samples of what we've recorded so far:

June 2006 (Ryan, almost 6 - Robert 7)
Ryan burps! Dad, "Ryan, cover your mouth, that's not polite!"
Robert, "Ya, ladies won't like you and you won't get married!"

July/Aug. 2006 (Robert 7, Ryan just 6)
Robert attended summer school for four weeks. Not a happy kid about it. One Monday morning he was fussing about going and he and Ryan went outside to play after breakfast. When Kelsey and I went outside I hollered, "Robert & Ryan get in the van, we're going." Robert stomped his feet all the way to the van and said to me, "Mom, thanks for ruining my life!"
That morning was a tough one, even Ryan told me as we dropped Robert off at the school -- "Mom, thanks for ruining Robert's life!" He was upset because he wanted Robert to stay home and play with him. Ugh...

Ryan ( 5 yrs., kindergarten)
"Kelsey, I want to think about how fun my field trip is gonna be, and I can't think with you whining!"

Jan. 2007 (Kelsey, just 3)
I said, "Kelsey, you're my girl...aren't you" -- she says, "No, I'm your daughter!"

Jan. 2007 (Robert 8)
Robert said to me "Mom, I'm almost my own person," and I said, "oh ya" and he says, "ya, I'm almost a teenager!"

He was trying to convince Tim and I to try and find someone to teach him how to play the bagpipes.

This is an official reminder to myself (and Tim) to TRY and write down some of the things that our children utter....no matter how silly, crazy, sad and profound.
