Kelsey had some surgery on her toes today.
She went in smiling and when the anesthesiologist and nurse anesthetist came to get her they had a big blanket to put around her and asked if she wanted them to carry her. She said, "no" and went walking away with them with her doggie carried in one arm and holding the blanket around her in the other like this big brave girl. It was all I could do, not to literally run after her. It just didn't seem right that I couldn't go with them. Anyway, everything went fine...the surgeon made an incision on the top and bottom of each toe and released a tendon so that her toes would lay flat.
When we went to meet her in recovery, she wasn't in her room yet. I went into the hallway to wait and it was only a couple of minutes and up they came hauling her in that big iron bar crib like bed. She looked at me and she had the saddest face and I could tell she was holding in a big cry. She reached out her hand and I could barely hear, but she said..."Mom, hold me." The tears started to flood. I couldn't get her out of that bed fast enough! Although, she had the I.V. still hooked up and we had to figure out how to get the sides down on the bed. It was only about an hour and we were on our way home. As you can see from the above photo, Tim carried her. She'll have to wear the casts for three weeks and hopefully by then, it'll be sandal season.
